32nd annual National Magazine Awards – a night to remember!

And the Winners are…

The National Magazine Awards Foundation presented the 32nd annual National Magazine Awards on Friday, June 5 at the Carlu in Toronto.

AlbertaViews won the coveted award for Magazine of the Year.

Top winners were The Walrus with 5 Gold and 1 Silver awards, Toronto Life with 4 Gold and 5 Silver, explore with 4 Gold and 2 Silver, enRoute with 2 Gold and 3 Silver, Swerve with 2 Gold and 2 Silver, Malahat Review with 2 Gold and 2 Silver, and Report on Business with 2 Gold.

Writer Chris Koentges was the most celebrated individual winner this year, winning an impressive 2 Gold and 2 Silver awards, including a sweep of Gold and Silver in the category One of a Kind, for “L.A. Torn Mad with Footsteps” (Up! Magazine) and “Driving Mary Siegel” (Swerve). Koentges’s article “Helen Koentges” (Swerve) won Gold in Health & Medicine and Silver in Personal Journalism.

Chris Watt won the 4th annual award for Best Student Writer. Kris Demeanor won the award for Best New Magazine Writer. Cynthia Brouse was honoured as this year’s recipient of the Foundation Award for Outstanding Achievement.
