About the Internship/Externship

Time: January 9 – June 6, 2008

Hours:  5-8 hours per week on average, not to exceed 15 hours in any week. Hours are flexible except during peak times.

Rewards: A $1,000 bursary, plus two complimentary tickets to the 31st annual National Magazine Awards gala on June 6, 2008.

Description:

A great opportunity to work behind the scenes of the Canadian magazine industry through one of its most important and celebrated institutions – the National Magazine Awards.

We can call you an “extern” because most of the work you can do from home or wherever it is you work most comfortably – only about 10% of your time need be spent in our office.

How you can help us:

Working with the NMAF Communications Manager, your tasks will include liaising with magazines and individual applicants to the NMAs, fact-checking NMA promotional material, sorting submissions, compiling statistics and industry research as needed, assisting with the development of creative ideas for the NMA gala, creating a nominees’ exhibition for the NMA gala, assisting with media outreach and advertising, and others tasks that arise.

Requirements:

Applicants must be well-motivated, independent workers with a healthy respect for deadlines and a passion for magazines. You must be available at our “peak” times: mid- to late January; late March to mid-April; mid-May until the awards gala. At other times the work schedule is very flexible.

 Preference will be given to applicants in the magazine stream and/or those who demonstrate a strong interest in exploring the magazine industry professionally. Knowledge of French is an asset.

How to Apply

The application deadline is December 7, 2007.

To apply, just send us:

1) A cover letter of no more than one page, including a brief statement of career goals and a blurb about why you love magazines (this is important to us!);

2) Your most up-to-date résumé;

3) Two letters of reference.

You can apply by email by sending your cover letter and résumé to staff@magazine-awards.com. Your letters of reference must follow in the mail. Or you can send the whole application by post to:

The National Magazine Awards
